 Trust Women!

Thank you everyone for your help and support to back Take Back the Night a successful event in raising awareness of the problem of domestic violence in Brevard County.  Brevard NOW is committed to continue in community education and shelter support throughout the year.

You can also help;

Serene Harbor is always in need to full size toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, soaps, feminine hygine products, brushes and combs, cosmetics, anything a woman uses in her daily grooming.  See our web site link on information how to contact Serene Harbor.

The Women's Center is also in need of those items, plus clothes and toys for children of any age.

It is lovely to give during the holidays, but remember, the need goes on all year.

11/28/2009 10:00 AM Eyes Wide Open

Acclaimed War Casualties Exhibition on Display in Melbourne, Florida

WHO:American Friends Service Committee, The Peace Coalition Of Brevard and local patriots
WHAT: Eyes Wide Open - AFSC's widely acclaimed war casualties exhibition illustrating the human cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars
WHERE: Wells Park, 635 Hibiscus Blvd. Melbourne FL (next to the Melbourne Auditorium)
WHEN: Saturday, November 28, 2009  10am-5pm

Over 245 Pairs of Combat Boots Representing U. S. Soldiers from Florida who have fallen in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and Civilian Casualties to be memorialized.

On March 15, 2008 EYES WIDE OPEN Florida was first exhibited at the Satellite Beach Civic Center and contained 167 pair of empty combat boots. Sadly this year we will have 190. For the first time empty boots for Florida soldiers who have died in Afghanistan (currently 55) will also be memorialized. The Florida State Exhibit also now includes, a single pair of boots spray painted white. The white boots represent Florida's Iraq/Afghanistan War Veteran suicides. They are painted white to remind us of angels, their hearts too big, their souls too noble to bear within their lifetime the horror of war.

The living memorial has traveled to Tampa, Boca Raton and Fort Myers this year. Some families and friends have left memorabilia in the boots (poetry, pictures, notes and other items). These items travel with the boots. We welcome family and friends to leave their own memorabilia or to volunteer.
